AN OPHTHALMOLOGIST’S APPROACH

Your eye health and appearance, considered together

Looking at the whole eye area

Loose skin, eyelid position, irritation and changes in appearance can overlap. Dr Stavrou considers the eyelids, the surface of the eyes and the surrounding facial anatomy together.

The aim is to understand what is causing your concern and choose care that suits it. That may involve a surgical or non-surgical treatment, care for an eyelid condition, or monitoring a change over time.

What you can discuss

  • Changes in shape or appearanceUpper eyelid heaviness, loose skin, fine lines or crow’s feet.
  • Comfort and eyelid positionIrritation, watering or eyelids that turn inward or outward.
  • Lumps or skin changesA chalazion, cyst, xanthelasma or another change you have noticed.
  • Your preferencesThe result you hope for, questions about recovery and maintaining a natural appearance.

CHOOSING YOUR NEXT STEP

A plan that fits your eyelids

Surgical and non-surgical options

Some patients are better suited to upper eyelid surgery; others may be candidates for PLEXR tightening. The choice depends on the amount and pattern of excess skin, eyelid anatomy, the expected recovery and your preferences.

Eyelid-position problems are assessed with attention to comfort and function. Dr Stavrou explains the options appropriate to your findings.

Assessment before lesion treatment

A chalazion, cyst, xanthelasma and other eyelid lesions may need different approaches. Diagnosis comes before choosing how to treat them.

Depending on the findings, care may involve medication, a minor procedure, treatment of a selected benign superficial lesion, or referral for further assessment.

Technology with a clear purpose

PLEXR may be used for selected tightening, wrinkle and superficial lesion treatments. Dry-eye investigations may also be relevant when eyelid symptoms and problems with the tear film overlap.
